LOUGHEED GENEALOGICAL HISTORY
The earliest record located to-date for the Lougheeds, begins with John Lougheed who was born in Sligo County, Ireland in 1796, and died in 1862. He is buried at Waverly, Tioga County, New York. John Lougheed's father was born at the head of Klarny Lake, Scotland, but no date is known for his birth. He married a Sligo lady (Sligo, Ireland) by the name of Scarlet. (Not known whether this is a first or last name). She died in Sligo before John's father migrated to America when John was in his 11th year. John began preaching the Methodist gospel on November 9, 1816. John Lougheed married Hannah Niver (may have been spelled Kniver) who was born in 1793. She died in 1862 and is buried beside her husband in a cemetery north of Waverly. Their son, Rev. Samuel D. Lougheed, in a letter to his daughter Josephine Lougheed Kearns, dated Montesano, Washington, December 17, 1891, stated: "I visited their graves and knelt and offered a short prayer, kneeling between them. Samuel D. Lougheed, seventh child of John and Hannah Lougheed, was born February 7, 1824 in Shawanajunk (near Oswego) in Sullivan County, New York. He died January 17, 1893 and is buried at Montesano, Washington. Samuel D. Lougheed married Jane Hurd, who was born April 22, 1824 in Hurdtown, Morris County, New Jersey. She died March 17, 1891 and is buried beside her husband in the cemetery at Montesano, Washington. Jane Hurd was the daughter of James and Betsey Hurd (maiden name was Wood) James Hurd was born in 1783 and died in 1849, birthplace unknown. Betsey Wood was born in 1784, Morristown, Morris County, New Jersey, and died in 1845. Both she and her husband are buried at Hurdtown, New Jersey.
